What is the difference between a monitoring dashboard and a real EMS?

A monitoring dashboard watches: it shows production, consumption and faults. An energy management system (EMS) intervenes: it takes decisions and controls power — within limits you set. The Elteq EMS platform by 1AITE B.V. (Meppel, the Netherlands) is the latter, with the former included.

The chain: measure → decide → control

Monitoring is step one: telemetry per inverter, battery, meter or charge point in one data model. An EMS adds the steps that touch money and risk: decision rules (price, congestion, contract limit) and actual control — charge and discharge setpoints, curtailment per inverter, peak shaving.

Why many "EMS" platforms are really dashboards

Many platforms show only what their own brand produces and control nothing. The test is simple: can the system read multiple brands and intervene within your contracted capacity? If not, it is a dashboard.
